about
I wrote this at my friend Susanna’s piano on March 1st, 2020. We had no idea then what the pandemic was gonna do.
I wrote it thinking of her brother who has lived with his husband for decades, both of them now well into their 80s, and having lived with HIV since the 80s.
I wrote it thinking, too, of Dreama, who had Hep C and then was cured of it, something she had never dreamed possible.
I wrote it thinking, too, of all the children, the parents, the lovers, the friends who have provided care for their ailing or dying parents, children, lovers or friends.
Tenderness is essential, and this song is the tenderness of the caretaker in sonic form.
lyrics
Let the rain
shine upon your face
Let the tears
refill the laughter
This diagnosis
might be forever
but maybe not
maybe
I'll be your love
every day
I'll be your star
I'll be ya moon
I'll give ya space
when ya need it
I'll be ya blanket
when ya cold.
Oh won't ya let me
see ya broken
Oh, won't you let me
serve ya whole
